Essential Information for Your Jungle Trekking Adventure in Bukit Lawang

Jungle Trekking Equipment: Be Prepared
Ensure you are fully equipped for a safe and comfortable jungle trek. You will need light T-shirts, long trousers, and long socks, preferably in dark colors. For cooler evenings, bring long-sleeved shirts or a sweater. If you’re doing an overnight trek, pack a change of clothes. Comfortable trekking shoes are essential, along with water shoes for river crossings and sandals for the campsite. Other essentials include a hat or cap, sunglasses, a raincoat, a small backpack (30-35 liters), and a swimsuit with a towel. For toiletries, bring solid soap, shampoo, and eco-friendly toothpaste, as well as sunscreen and mosquito repellent for both your body and clothes. A camera, mobile phone, flashlight, and power bank are useful for capturing your adventure. A small medical kit is recommended, including anti-diarrhea medicine, dehydration salts, aspirin or painkillers, antibiotics, and plasters. Lastly, bring a 1.5L water bottle, a silk travel sheet (optional), and a travel pillow if needed.

Eco-Friendly Travel Tips: Protect the Jungle
Help us preserve the rainforest by following eco-friendly practices. Use solid soap, shampoo, and toothpaste, as they are plastic-free and palm oil-free. Avoid single-use plastics by bringing reusable metallic or bamboo straws and cutlery, which are available for purchase in Bukit Lawang. If you smoke, carry a pocket ashtray to dispose of cigarette butts responsibly. Instead of plastic bags, use a waterproof bag to protect your belongings.

Bring Cash: Plan Ahead
Bukit Lawang does not accept credit cards, and the nearest ATM is 30 minutes away, only supporting Mastercard and Maestro. Ensure you bring enough cash to cover your guesthouse, food, trekking, and other activities. You can ask your driver to stop at an ATM or MoneyChanger on the way.

Medical Preparedness: Stay Healthy
Before embarking on your trek, make sure you are physically fit, especially for treks lasting more than two days. A general health check with your doctor is recommended. Check with your healthcare provider regarding necessary vaccinations. Pack a first aid kit with essentials like sunscreen, mosquito repellent, anti-diarrhea medicine, dehydration salts, aspirin or painkillers, and antibiotics. If you have specific medical conditions such as allergies, high blood pressure, or pregnancy, inform us in advance. For safety reasons, some medical conditions may prevent participation in trekking activities.
